Before the Christmas holidays lots of children had a great time outside building a trap to catch a T-rex, there were also lots of children who were playing with our tub of dinosaurs and talking about them. This half term our over arching topic will be Dinosaurs. We have begun this by asking the children to share what they already know about dinosaurs and chance to think of any questions they would ike to learn the answers to, some of which are below:

How do you draw a dinosaur?

How do you catch a dinosaur?

Let's learn about the dangerous dinosaurs?

What did they eat and drink?

We know about the volcano and that there was a big rock, but what happened to the dinosaurs?

What does the place the dinosaurs lived, look like now?

Is the T-rex the coolest dinosaur?

We are going to use a mixture of fiction and non-fiction texts to explore to the answers to these questions this half term.

We have read The Worrysaurus and had some PSED lessons all about how we can deal with a worry.

We have read If the Dinosaurs Came back and talked about which dinosaurs would make a good pet. We have even had the families involved as they have been sending ideas of how the dinosaurs could help them at work and home!

We are also going to investigate the changes in nature during the next two winter months as we have noticed how incredibly our outside area is and that some bulbs are peeking through already! As we have been playing outside in the colder weather we have been talking about wintery words and noticing what happens to the water when it gets cold. We have been scooping up the small snow flurry we had and catching tiny snowflakes on our tongues.

We are really looking forward to our grown ups visiting us next week for a Stay and Play session too.
