About Swallows (Year 3)

Welcome to Year 3 Swallow Class.

Summer Term:

In Maths, we will be building on our addition and subtraction skills that we developed in Autumn and Spring term. We will also be looking at fractions and division again ensuring that we have secured our understanding and trying to challenge ourselves to take our learning further. We will continue to focus on our rapid recall of multiplication facts in class. In English we will be looking at comparative reports on polar bears and camels and we are going to be learning how to write a persuasive letter.

In Design and Technology, we will looking at eating seasonally. We will understand how and where different fruit and vegetables grow, how the UK can import fruit and vegetables from other countries but realising the impact this can have on the environment, and understanding the different nutritional value of fruit and vegetables.

In Science our topic will be plants. We will be looking at identifying and describing the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers . We will also be exploring the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant . We will investigate the way in which water is transported within plants and explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

In Art, we will be looking at craft. We will start by discussing what a mood board is, how we can show what is important to use through a mood board and explain our choices. We will then move on to looking at tie-dying materials, understanding the process, being able to tie the bands tightly and we will be able to understand the similarities between tie-dying and wax resist.
