Puppets

Year 1 - The last couple of weeks have been a Design and Technology focus where we looked at designing and making hand puppets. The children began investigating various methods of joining fabric, using staples, glue and safety pins. We discovered that using staples and glue were the most effective. The children chose an animal and drew their design, thinking carefully about the features and colours they wanted to include. We had lots of fun using felt to make our hand puppets!

Y2 History

In History, Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We have found about what life was like in the 17th century London and why the famous diarist Samuel Pepys is important. We created our own houses from 1666 using cereal boxes in the traditional style to replicate the wooden frames and straw roofs. We have enjoyed learning lots of songs and a play to embed our learning – ‘in 1666 London burnt like rotten sticks!’

science

Year 3 have been learning all about light in Science. They started the week by looking at what UV light is and the negative effects it can have on us. They also looked at the dangers of looking directly at light sources such as the sun and came up with ways to protect their eyes. They made fantastic posters which explained how people can stay safe in the sun! Year 3 also used torches to investigate what happens when light travels through a range of transparent, translucent and opaque materials.

Eden Camp

Last week, Year 5 visited Eden Camp which is a WW2 open air museum. This was the launch of our Year 5 topic, the Home Front. The children really enjoyed looking at all the exhibits in all of the huts and especially enjoyed looking at the impressive range of tanks, jeeps and army vehicles. The day was helped by the amazing weather, the children’s scrumptious packed lunches and a brand new coach!

Pudsey Schools’ Olympic Day

This week, Mr Harkins, Mr Bayly, Mr Overton, Mrs Parkinson and Mrs Emmott took 30 children from across KS1 and KS2 to represent our school in an athletics competition at the John Charles Centre for Sport. The children all did fantastically well and represented their school with pride. KS1 took part in a carousel of activities including …., whilst children from Y3-6 competed in a variety of track and field events. It was brilliant to see all the children trying their best and to hear all the children cheering on their schoolmates for all the different events. We finished 7th out of 11 schools once all the points for the events had been collected and managed to beat our local rivals, Calverley Parkside, in the overall rankings. Congratulations to all our sports stars who took part; you were a credit to our school with your passion, determination and discipline.

REMINDER: As part of our partnership with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, we are once again working with Leeds Rhinos Rugby League club to offer tickets to children and adults in school.
