Dear Parents,

Welcome to our end of half term addition of our newsletter.  I hope the children have enjoyed the first half term of 2023 and I also hope you all have a good week during the half-term holiday.

Unfortunately on Friday, Mrs Keeley (Miss Rowland) will be leaving us to take up a role closer to home.  We all thank her for all her hard work and wish her well for the future.  She will be missed.  Mrs Weldon will only be returning to us for one week after the half term holidays before she begins her maternity leave.  I am sure you will all wish her well at this exciting time for her, her husband and family.

As I said, hopefully everyone will have an enjoyable week over half term and we will look forward to welcoming the children back in after the break next week.

Take care everyone.

Mr Curran.

Year 1 have loved their art sessions this half term. They have been inspired by various work and enjoyed replicating sculptures. They began by making sculptures with clay and used etching tools to make patterns in the clay. They then designed and made 3D animal models using junk and thought carefully about the features of their animal to ensure they could survive in the wild. Next session the children collected a variety of natural objects from outside such as leaves and sticks and made a sculpture with these. The final lesson was fabulous when the children displayed great team work creating a giant spider sculpture using newspaper. For homework the children were asked to be inspired by Louise Bourgeois ‘Maman’ spider sculpture and create their own animal sculpture. The adults in Year 1 have been blown away by the creations that have so far been brought in to school. Well done Year 1!

Year 2 shapes

This week in Design Technology, Year 2 have been looking at natural and man-made structures. We also identified stable and unstable shapes and learnt that the shape of a structure affects its’s strength. In pairs, we moulded 3D shapes out of plasticine and tested which shapes where less likely to roll on a gradient. We found out that shapes and structures with wide, flat bases are the most stable like a cube. As a class we tested the strength of 3D shapes made from paper and predicted which shape would hold the most books before crumpling out of a cuboid, triangular prism and cylinder. The paper cylinder ended up holding 8 books and was the strongest because it doesn’t have any corners.

4SG craft club would like to show you what they are busy making.

We've completed a pom-pom bird on a branch (we actually used a comb to make the pom-pom!). As last Thursday was National Hedgehog Day, we decided to create a hedgehog out of clay. We need to add detail this week. Also, we are recycling old books and turning them into these delightful hedgehogs.

Vaccination certificate

Message from Intra Health

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and commitment throughout the Nasal Flu immunisation programme.

As we have now come to the end of this season, please find attached a thank you letter from the team here at IntraHealth.

We have a certificate incentive running throughout the season and have allocated certificates to schools based on their vaccine uptake. Please see details of how the certificates are allocated below:

 Bronze 0% - 49%

  • Silver 50% - 59%
  • Gold 60% - 69%
  • Platinum 70%+

Your school reached 71% this flu season; hopefully, next season we can work together again to improve this further. Over each season we also look for the ‘Most Improved School’. Seasonal figures are compared, and this is awarded to the school who have the biggest improvement in % uptake.

We would be grateful for your continued support with our forthcoming plans for the next flu season by keeping us informed of any events, meetings or parent evenings that we could attend to raise awareness around Flu. We are also here to provide schools with individual support. Please let us know if there is any specific help that you feel would be beneficial to your school.
