Truth

The notions of truth and justice are intertwined and play a central role in Christianity. Truth is a quality we encourage in our pupils every day but this unit will give children greater time to reflect on this value and develop their understanding of its importance.
This half term, we will explore themes including:
- We all have made mistakes and told lies. Collect examples from the class and discuss how the truth would have been a better choice.
- Discuss the issues raised by the story from Samuel 12 - Nathan tells David the Truth.
- If we lie and nobody knows we’ve lied, do we escape punishment?
- Look at the ninth commandment: 'Do not tell lies about others' (Exodus 20:16)
- Older - children could explore the subtleties of propaganda in politics, marketing and advertising. Who should we trust? How can we recognise the truth?
- Give pupils a leaf and let them write down some times that they have not told the truth. Turn over the leaf and write down what you are going to do in the future.
- Ask children to create their own retelling of the ‘Boy who cried wolf.’
