Yesterday, Year 5 attended the 100th Anniversary Service for the Royal British Legion in Calverley Park.

One hundred years ago, the Calverley branch of the Royal British Legion was formed. The War Memorial in Calverley Park was dedicated in May 1922 and unveiled by the President of the Caverley Branch of the British Legion. Mnay people attended the service, most notably Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, David Pearson representing HRH The Queen, Mr Jeff Gants, Chairman of the Leeds group RBL and his standard barer Mr Waite, Rev Denton, John Corbin and Cllr Andrew Carter CBE. During the service an anniversary plaque was unveiled in memory of all the work undertaken by past and present members of the Calverley and Rodley Branch.

The children in Year 5 played their part in the service when they sang 2 verses of God Save The Queen. It was a moving rendition and the children made us all feel very proud.

It was humbling to be part of the service and the children very much appreciated that they could make their contribution.
