On Thursday 14th July, Year 5 and Year 6 represented Calverley CE  in a cricket tournament hosted by Priesthorpe School. Teams of 6 played following Kwik Cricket rules.

All the teams began by participating in a mini league - each team playing each other once. The Year 6 team comprised of Ivan, Adam, Hussain, Hussam, Lucas White, Lucas Wagstaff and Liam. There were some outstanding performances with both bat and ball. Ivan Pollard hitting a number of impressive drives past the fielders. Lucas White, playing for the Year 6 team, was also impressive with the bat in hand - equalling the total runs made by the entire Farsley Spring Bank team. Adam Akakpo was outstanding in the field with both throwing and catching. Hussain made totals of over 20 in each of his innings as did Hussam. Lucas Wagstaff took a number of clean wickets with some devastatingly accurate bowling. Liam, in the final, made the intial breakthrough with some quick runs and drives through the covering fielders.

The Year 5 team was Freddie, Max A, Jude, Sammy and Jacob. They produced some outstanding cricket - Jacob with some amazingly accurate throws from the field. Freddie also displayed some cultured moments with the bat. Jude, playing his first competitive game after injury, was also an outstanding performer both with ball in hand and bat - a true all rounder! Max contributed with some outstanding stops at wicket - displaying lightning fast reflexes. Sammy was full of running between the stumps - making some impressive totals in his stints with the bat.

Both teams made an extremely impressive account of themselves. Both the league and knock out competition were won by the Year 6 team, with the Y5 team runners up on each occasion. The entire Y5 and Y6 teams worked well together and should be proud of their sporting excellence!
