Oscar Sanderson was inspired to take action after hearing about a similar challenge radio presenter Chris Evans' son was undertaking.

Oscar lives with his aunt Diane Shaw in Rodley.

The pair have been inspired by the actions of the NHS battling coronavirus on the frontline.

"We think it is just amazing what they are doing and facing," said Diane.

Oscar was hoping to raise £500 for NHS Charities Together, but has now raised more than £2,100.

NHS Charities Together is the membership organisation for more than 140 official NHS charities across the UK that help hospitals and patients.

"Oscar was wanting to do something so the staff could treat themselves and have something to look forward to when they are working so hard."

The charities have funded projects, hospital medical equipment and pioneered research ,and also support the health and well-being of staff.

Oscar said: "It was fun but quite sleepless and cold.

"It was good to get back in my own bed and have a nice sleep."

Diane, who runs running events company It's Grim Up North Running, has been helping keep Oscar busy at home during lockdown.

They've been going out for three kilometre runs each morning, before school work in the morning, before guitar practice, reading and catching up with friends on the Nintendo Switch in the afternoons.

It's Grim Up North Running has been keeping going through hosting virtual runs and selling merchandise to fans across the country.
