KIRFS and Times Tables

KIRFs and Times Tables

KIRF stands for Key Instant Recall Facts and the main focus of these is mental calculation. Each Year group (from 1 to 5) have been given KIRF objectives to work on throughout the year.

There are 4 strands to KIRFs for each year group. These are:

*Place Value

*Fractions

*Multiplication and Division

*Addition and Subtraction

Here at Calverley we encourage children to learn these key facts as they can be used to support learning and understanding in Maths.

Times Tables 

By the end of Year 4 children are expected to know their times tables up to 12 x 12 by heart (be able to recall times tables facts within 6 seconds). Year 4 children are tested on their times tables recall skills by way of an online assessment during Summer Term 1 in Year 4.
