Humility

Many people have the wrong idea about God, the Bible and humility, or being humble. They think being humble means grovelling in front of others or thinking they are no good and others are better. That’s not what the Bible says. God says when you are humble, you are free from pride and arrogance. You know that in your flesh you are inadequate, yet you also know who you are in Christ.
Pupils will explore the theme in some of these ways:
- Discuss the three quotes provided in the display materials for this value
- Listen to the story of The Tower of Babel which tells of the importance of not trying to overreach ourselves.
- Jesus as ‘The Servant King’ models how God expects us to act humbly: The parable of Jesus and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14) also highlights the dangers of being righteous:

It is important that we have dreams and goals but these we should not forget our place in God’s world when forming them. Celebrating achievements should be free from arrogance.
