Happy Easter
Holi
Holi 1

In Reception we have been having lots of messy fun this week as we celebrated Holi to welcome spring by having a colour party. We have been learning about signs of spring and have a new tadpole pond in our garden. We have been on a walk on our grounds to look at the signs of spring everywhere and we are really enjoying listening to the birds signing each day, we can even hear them from inside our classroom. We have learning about the Easter story and creating cards and Easter buns as well as doing some silhouette paintings of Easter symbols. Reception were inspired by our collective worship on charity to donate some of their own toys and we have taken them to church where they will be donated to Leeds Women’s Refuge Charity shop in Horsforth. In maths we have been learning about the concept of time and how it passes. We have challenging ourselves to see how many different exercises we can do in 1 minute. All the Boogie Bug grown ups are very proud of the children for their hard work this term!

EASTER FAIR - SATURDAY 16TH MARCH 2024

Thank you if you came along to our Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday 16th March and we hope you had lots of fun.  It was an amazing event with loads for everyone to do and lots of prizes to be won and it was wonderful to see our school community gathering together on the cusp of Spring.  The weather held off and we had people out on the field the playground and in the school hall and classroom.

A huge thank you to so many people involved int he event, both on the day and behind the scenes: our amazing PTA who were so well organised the event ran like clockwork,  our Green Team including Mrs Chamberlain, Miss White and Mr and Mrs Harkins, Toni in the kitchen who did a storming trade in tea, coffee, hot dogs and delicious cakes and everyone else who helped on stalls, donated gifts, painted faces and hair and helped with the setting and clearing up.

The event raised £2,000 for PTA funds and was a great success.

What’s the Story Easter Visit to church

Year 5 enjoyed visiting church last week and learning all about the Easter story. They were told stories, taken through the various ‘stations of the cross’ and then were involved in a workshop making Easter bracelets with charms representing the different parts of the story. A great morning was had by all!

Hello Goodbye

Goodbye and Hello:

We are very sad to say goodbye this Easter to Miss Ali who has been teaching 4HA this year.  Miss Ali joined Calverley in February last year and has worked really hard with us developing a well earned reputation as a calm, kind and fun member of staff.  I am sure you will join with us in wishing her all the very best in her new school.  From April we will welcome Miss Mellor who will be taking over the class in Year 4 until Mrs Packard returns from her maternity leave towards the end of the year.  Please give Miss Mellor a warm Calverley welcome if you see her around.

Neurodiverisity Celebration Week
Rev Rob

Last week was Neurodiversity Celebration Week. The children listened to Rev. Rob speak about different types of Neurodiversity, in particular, ADHD. The children engaged well in the session, listening to how ADHD affects Rev. Rob in his daily life. The children felt empowered with their new understanding and belief in their own uniqueness. We started Henna Club by drawing our own designs on paper. Then got crafty decorating candles with colourful paints, which some took home as Mother's Day presents. Mrs. Bruce kindly provided tealight holders for us to decorate too! For our last activity, we tried out henna on each other's hands and some even tried it on their own hands! Everyone did a brilliant job and we were really proud of everyone’s creativity, the designs they came up with were beautiful! Everyone got to take home a henna cone and I hope they’ll keep practising their talents at home!

Green Team News

Green Team

Last week in assembly we share all the hard work the children have been doing over the past 18 months with the Green Team. The choir sang a beautiful song called I am the Earth which everyone really enjoyed singing and we are going to learn as a school.

Clothes Bank

Green Team b

We have some exciting news to share with you all. After Easter we will be getting a clothes bank. This clothes bank will be placed at the top of the school playground next to the gates. For each collection the school is paid an amount of money. Some of the successful schools who have these clothes banks have earnt up to £3000 per year from it! If you are having a spring clean this Easter, please save any clothing you wish to donate ready for when our clothes bank arrives at the end of April. We can’t wait to get started and watch this space for more information!

WOW Walk to School!

Green Team d

Our school has been selected to have a fully funded place on the WOW Walk to School scheme. We have collected some information across school about how pupils travel to and from school. We are now in the process of setting up the scheme and we will be having a huge launch on Monday April 22nd, which is also Earth Day!

Thank You

I would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Chamberlain and Mr Harkins especially, as well as all of you who came and joined in with the Green Team crafts and fence building on the Easter Eggtravaganza it really was a lovely way to celebrate the start of spring.
