Year 2 loved their trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park last week!  Everybody was super sensible on the coach and the children continued their good looking and listening as we began to explore the Park.  We particularly enjoyed watching the polar bears and discussing the facts we could remember from our previous Bears Topic.  The children were amazed at how big one of the polar bears was when it stood on its hind legs!  After a picnic lunch, we attended a workshop on Food Chains.  Year 2 really impressed the adults by assembling jumbled food chains using labels, arrows and pictures.  They enjoyed meeting some minibeasts and reptiles, and looking at different animal skulls to see if they could identify them from their teeth and head shape.  During the afternoon, we made sure we visited the Dinosaur Area to see some life-size dinosaurs and find out some facts to use for our Factfile writing in class.  After exploring some more of the enclosures, we were ready for our journey back to school and a good night’s sleep!  Well done, Year 2!

Year 2 enjoyed an amazing visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park! Upon arriving, the Y2 group were the only people in the park! A whole wildlife park to ourselves! The children saw lions, tigers, giraffes (more on them later), rhinos, monkeys (Mrs Hepworth does a remarkable impression of an Orangutan). The children in Y2VS ate their lunch in a tree house overlooking the giraffe enclosure – the giraffes seemed to quite like the smell of cheese and onion crisps, sticking their tongues out at the children as we all ate! We had a wonderful workshop, handling a snake called Banana, holding giant snails and picking up hissing cockroaches (well everyone except Miss Hoban and Mr Hallas who hid!)

The children had a fantastic day and it was a pleasure to share such a magical experience with them all.

London Marathon

This year, Mr Bayly was lucky enough to receive a ballot place to take part in the London Marathon. On Sunday 21st April, he will be completing the iconic 26.2 mile course and hoping he’ll still be able to stand at the front of class on Monday morning. He is also supporting the four amazing charities that we are fundraising for in school this year. Led by the School Council, these charities were chosen by pupils across our school community.

Zarach - a local charity that deliver beds and basics to children in poverty, to help families in crisis rise up from surviving to thriving so children can Eat, Sleep and Learn.

Cancer Research - a charity who want to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.

RSPCA - a charity whose mission is to ensure animals have a good life by rescuing and caring for those in need.

Make A Wish Foundation - a charity who helps children that have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition by giving them the chance to experience a wish that's unique to them.

World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March the whole school gathered together at the start of the day to celebrate World Book Day. There was such a ‘buzz’ in the hall as the children were walking in dressed as book characters. Thank You so much to all parents for supporting the children in dressing up, they really looked fantastic. Congratulations to Asher and Reggie who were the winners of our ‘Extreme Reading’ competition! We hope you enjoy spending your book vouchers boys.   National Book Tokens

Please join me in the bottom playground at 3.30pm on Tuesday 19th March to join in with some litter picking to keep our school grounds clean and tidy. We will have some litter picking tools but you are welcome to bring your own. I hope to see lots of you there.

Children crossing

Please can you ensure that you DO NOT drive up or down school lane at drop off and pick up times.  This is the lane right next to the school and can be extremely busy with adults, children and pets which cannot be seen when in a car. There have been a few near misses this academic year and we want to keep everyone safe.  Please ensure you use the adjacent road, Thornhill Drive at these times.
